AKT Architects was founded by Anna K. Thorsdottir Architect in 1986.
The practice has evolved over the years from mostly residential renovation projects and house additions to the current multifaceted practice including both new construction, additions, and interior renovations on large and small scale commercial projects, health and educational facilities and high end residential construction.
The staff of two or more architects and an interior designer brings a wealth of experience and expertise to all phases of the projects, from programming, research and feasibility studies, all design phases and construction documents through construction, including all facets of interior design.
AKT Architects approaches all projects small and large with the same goal, to provide a personalized service and design solutions based on each project’s physical parameters and the client’s program and vision, with a focus on problem solving and attention to detail, assuring the quality of the final product. |

Anna K Thorsdottir was born and raised in Reykjavik Iceland.
After receiving a baccalaureate from the Teachers Training College of Iceland she came to the States to further her studies. Anna received a B.A. in Studio Art, Magna Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1973 and a Masters in Architecture from The University of California Los Angeles in 1977.
Since 1977 she has resided and worked in New York City, as an assistant architect for a variety of smaller architectural firms until opening her own practice in 1986.
Although she never entirely closed her studio she worked for two periods for the City of New York, first in 1988 -1990 for DGS as a project manager and then in 1992-1994 for DDC as an architectural designer and design review supervisor.
